When a young person leaves foster care and begins the next chapter of their life, it’s vital that they have both structure and support, as this will give them the best chance of reaching their full potential. Aftercare services provide young people, normally between the ages of 18-21 and who have just left care, with extra support and a living environment where they can start living independently.

The objective of aftercare services for foster care is to provide people leaving care with a stable living environment, an overall sense of well-being and happiness, and opportunities for them to develop their skills, knowledge and independence as they move forward with their lives.

Below, the team at Compass Child and Family Services has written a short guide to aftercare services for foster care, exploring what it is and the options available via our charity. Read on to learn more, and if you would like to make an aftercare referral, then please visit our website today.

The Aims of Our Aftercare Services

At Compass Child and Family Services, our charity provides aftercare arrangements, which aim to make the transition for a young person leaving care as smooth and seamless as possible. We aim to provide quality living environments which ensure care for individuals departing from foster care, and we aim to build a community where everyone is welcome, supported and valued as a member of the wider society.

In addition to this, our aftercare services for foster care aim to provide young people with connections to the community, giving them life-changing opportunities in education, employment and mentoring. Our aftercare supports foster care leavers to develop practical, emotional and social skills, as they look towards independent living. If you would like to find out more, please read our aftercare brochure today.

The Crescent Villas Environment

Crescent Villas is a semi-independent living environment for young adults leaving foster care. It is essentially a stepping stone for young people as they move from foster care to fully independent living. The Crescent Villas environment gives individuals self-contained apartments within a building, and a communal space where a qualified member of staff is available to provide advice, guidance and personal support.

Situated near to the city centre in Limerick, our house has four one-bedroom self-contained apartments. It is an environment that offers both independence and privacy, with community engagement, interaction and inclusion. Contact us today to find out more about our aftercare setting for care leavers.
